Warblogger in fatal landmine blast
A weblogger told of journalists’ panic and desire to flee war-torn Iraq - hours before he was caught in a landmine explosion which killed a colleague.
BBC News producer Stuart Hughes was travelling in Kifri, northern Iraq, in a team of four, when Pulitzer-winning freelance cameraman Kaveh Golestan was killed. Hughes suffered a leg injury; the two other crewmembers were unhurt.
Hughes has been blogging from Iraq since February, after striking a deal with the BBC similar to that which let CNN reporter Kevin Sites type from the front - until he was asked not to.
