“We don’t need no stinking business plan!”
The Greensboro News-Record is amongst the most exciting citizen journalism newspaper/web efforts, launching all manner of blogs and interesting ideas to revolutionise itself.
How will they make it pay? They don’t care. Editor John Robinson tells Poynter:-
Business plan? We don’t need no stinkin’ business plan! If we drive eyeballs to the site, someone will want to pay to reach those eyeballs. We’re a bunch of journalists doing this, and we’re approaching it that way. We figure if we can create good, interesting, dynamic content, then readers will come and will value the site.
Which sounds great to me. They’re doing all this because good journalism, they feel, demands it, not because there’s an attractive demographic online to go grab.
