Guardian and BBC are belles of “web Oscars” ball

Guardian Unlimited has won the best newspaper award at the Webbies, beating the likes of The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

My former employer, BBC News, won the overall award for best news site, whilst Wired News (my stories here) was a nominee in the category.

“It’s a great honour and we’re thrilled to have won”, said Guardian site news editor Sheila Pulham. GU’s assistant editor Neil McIntosh said “this is a set of awards which really do count”, whilst Simon Waldman, the director of online publishing on Farringdon Road, is “quite pleased, to say the least”. BBC News editor Pete Clifton said his win was “all down to a great team effort.”

Contratulations to one and all.
