Life after publication

Watching the post-publication life of some pieces, I see today’s Guardian newspaper followed up on three of my recent stories.

• On page 4 of G2, Shortcuts, is “I steal, therefore I am“, a take on my story about Yomango, the Latin American social shoplifting movement, that appeared on Wired News five days ago.
• And on page 6 of G2 is “Anybody there?“, a story about about lonesome web users trying to make friends with their search engine that is inspired by a recent Newsweek article. That article followed my Wired News story “Misery Loves (Cyber) Company” from a month ago, which itself was picked up from an earlier blog post. (It’s interesting to note that, whilst the original story was about how people telling Google “I am lonely” were being sent, by the top search results, to congregate in comfort at an obscure message board, the new top result is the Newsweek article itself).
• Yesterday’s story, “Flickr Fans to Yahoo: Flick Off!“, on how a small group of Flickr users is unhappy at closer integration with Yahoo!, has had some play amongst news organisations, picked up by titles like News.com. This story, too, was picked up by The Guardian - by Jane Perrone at the paper’s main News Blog and by Jack Schofield at its Onlineblog. Blog buzz is split between those who are affronted by Flickr’s proposed login integration with the portal giant and those who think it’s a storm in a teacup that will actually produce tangible benefits.

Some blogs liked the recent story on hearwear (or “hearware”).
