Here’s a novel approach to ripping apart your subs’ self-esteem. The New Haven Independent, a small “hyperlocal” news site thingamy, encourages its readers to find mistakes in its output. “Find a typo? Win a mug“, it says. “We may not have a budget for proofreaders. But we do have a line item for ‘thank you’ gifts.”
Indeed, it’s not just gifts on offer but the kudos of being the top-ranked typo catcher on an online leaderboard. So far this month, the leader has spotted 26.
