About Robert Andrews
I am a journalist and publisher with a decade’s experience in the news-and-content business, across newspapers, magazines, websites and blogs, focusing particularly on technology and media business.
A text specialist trained in newspapers, I am a reporter and editor used to writing breaking copy and in-depth stories for international publishers.
I launched and co-edited one of the UK’s first local weekly online newspapers and edited a section of an early-stage award-winning national arts and entertainment content site.
After coming up through local newspapers and accredited training, I worked for several years at BBC News Interactive - covering text and multimedia stories, building sections, assembling packages, editing reporters’ submissions and wire copy and producing audio and video for one of the world’s most popular websites, as well as for Ceefax and digital text services.
I was flattered when a panel called my BBC writing “sparkling and authoritative” in handing a subsequent Internet Journalist of the Year commendation.
I am a contributor to Wired News (allied with “the best magazine in America“), E-consultancy and Journalism.co.uk, and have written for the likes of New Media Investor, Digital Home, New Musical Express, Rugby World, Ping Wales, itwales, The Western Mail and more. I once wrote a weekly newspaper column about digital media for five years.
I am interested by revolutions and innovations, especially in the mass and grassroots media and in the news business. I have covered Google’s stock market flotation, Apple’s iTunes strife, music piracy, Europe’s biggest broadband programme and the AOL/TimeWarner merger.
And I have written on political tragedy, battlefield strategy, animated superheroes, and why punk is making a comeback.
My commentary has appeared in Time magazine, Los Angeles Business Journal and BBC Radio.
I’m into blogs, the former audience and the new reality that users can produce their own media content. I provide commentary and news on this topic, and help develop blogging and social media strategies.
