My Work: Northcliffe (DMGT)
I was a sometime news reporter on the local Llanelli Star weekly newspaper between 1996 and 2001, with some of my work also appearing in the South Wales Evening Post and Carmarthen Journal.
In ‘96, when not walking the beat for the latest local government rumour or proofreading town centre argument, I began writing about the internet and the emerging dot.com hype exploding around us at the time.
For four years - before, during and after the boom - I wrote a weekly column all about the net; it was amongst the first regular features about the revolution to appear in UK newsprint.
Whilst writing and reporting, round about 1997/98, I turned my practical web production head toward building and launching the newspaper’s website (one of the first UK local titles to go online).
I continued to co-edit the operation, migrating and commissioning material for the fledgling destination, before acting as an advisor to the parent South West Wales Publications group on what would become the regional ThisIsSouthWales newspaper portal.
